Steve Richards Steps Down as Head Coach
PENDLETON, Ore. - After five years at the helm of the Blue Mountain Community College softball team, head coach Steve Richards has stepped down to enjoy his retirement. Steve started with the program in 2015 and quickly left a lasting impression that would not be soon forgotten. Heading up projects at BMCC such as a repurposing a functioning building to a functional student focused space for athletes (field house) to house the indoor turf training room for the softball, baseball, and soccer teams, assisting in multiple softball players moving onto the four year level, and 20 plus years of coaching and leaving an impact on the lives of hundreds of athletes. "Coaching at Blue Mountain has been some of the most rewarding time in my life. Helping our athletes transition to independent living while juggling multiple priorities that focused on academics with competitive athletics thrown in the mix was challenging" said Steve Richards. "The 'Students First' motto of the school helped recruit student-athletes, but it was the rest of the staff at BMCC that helped them succeed. It has made me a further believer that 2 year colleges are where it’s at!" The BMCC softball season was cut short with the COVID-19 pandemic that saw the season end after twelve games played.
The softball team did create a goodbye message for Coach Richards.
