NWAC East-Region Votes to Start Region Play April 1st
PENDLETON, Ore. - On January 12th, the Northwast Athletic Conference (NWAC) East-Region committee voted to start regional play on April 1st, 2021. The vote came with finalized plans to play a modified schedule running from mid-April until mid-June.
The decision by the NWAC East-Region committee follows the NWAC announcement that the championship tournaments would not be held in the 2020-21 season. The decision to cancel the championships did not include the delay or cancellation with men's/women's golf and cross country as they will proceed on schedule.
The NWAC East-Region committee decided to also set a deadline for East-Region schools to opt "in" or out" of competition for the year by March 15th. Schools that opt in and are cleared by the state and county health departments will play the modified schedules that were built by the East-Region committee.
All East-Region schools will only play against schools within their region for the remainder of the calendar year while within the modified schedule.
No finalized schedules have been released by the committee until after the March 15th deadline.
Due to state guidelines in Oregon, no indoor training/weight lifting is allowed until further notice until county numbers drop. As of 1/13/2021, Umatilla County is listed in the extreme risk category.
