Men's Soccer Falls in NWAC Regional Playoffs
PENDLETON, Ore. - A historic season comes to an end for the Blue Mountain Community College men's soccer team as they fall 5-4 in the Northwest Athletic Conference regional playoff against Everett Community College. 2021 presented a plethera of challenges and hurdles for the men's soccer team as they took a delayed season in the fall of 2020 and competed in the spring of 2021, winning the 2020-21 NWAC east division title. With a month and a half off, they regrouped as they competed in another season of competition in the fall of 2021, thus rounding out two competitive seasons in the same calendar year.
The Match
BMCC wasted little time getting on the scoring sheet with a poor clearence from the Everett back line right into the path of Sergio Varela as he headed home the opening goal at the 1' mark. Not long after, Oscar Arguello joined the party with a gorgeous combination play with Jesus Ruiz Alvarez to rip a shot to the upper corner to make it 2-0 in the 16'. Everett would answer off an unlucky clearance a minute later to make it 2-1. BMCC immediately answered again within a minute after drawing a penalty kick. Coleman Solano brought the score to 3-1 in the 18th minute of the game with the made penalty kick. Everett would answer twice before halftime to make it 3-3.
The second half launched into an all out attack from BMCC to put Everett on their heels as Oscar Arguello forced the turnover from the Everett backline to 45° a pass across the box to Omar Benites as he opened up the scoring for BMCC in what would be their final goal of the game in the 47'. Everett returned the favor with a penalty of their own in the 51' before scoring the game winning goal in the 67' off a spectacular save by BMCC keeper Levi Pedaggi.
