Men's Basketball Signs Thirteen Freshmen
PENDLETON, Ore. - The BMCC men's basketball team have been hard at work off the court bringing in a fresh class of players looking to make their mark in blue and yellow. These thirteen student-athletes from around the pacific northwest will be looking to bring their best as the men's basketball team looks to have a breakout year under head coach Doug Baxter's 3rd year at the helm. "I am looking forward to being competitive in the east region, working towards that goal of reaching post season play. These young men bring both strong work ethic on the court and in the classroom and I cannot wait to start season" said Coach Baxter.
Cesar Ortiz – A 6-4 wing from Hermiston, OR "Cesar brings the ability to spread the floor outstanding shooter, but is a krafty lefty and can attack the rim. He is a great team guy with a high basketball IQ" said coach Baxter.
Keaston Young – A 6-7 forward from Myton, UT and Union High School. Coach Baxter had this to say, "he grew 2 additional inches over the course of the season, so that certainly helps us in an area of need. He is athletic, can handle the ball some, his great attitude and willingness to work will help us!"
Cole Dieter – A 6-8 forward joins BMCC from John Day, OR and attended Prairie City High School. "He has played a key role on a State Championship team as a junior, and helped return them to the state playoffs again this year. He is mobile and pretty athletic for his size, shoots the ball well and also handles it well for a big man" said coach Baxter.
Weston Ide – A 6-4 wing, comes to Blue Mountain from Zillah High School in Zillah, WA. "He only lost 7 games in his high school career. Very fundamentally sound player does all the little things well! He can score in all 3 phases of the game. Will compete very well at both ends of the floor" says Coach Baxter.
Riley Sloan – A 6-4 wing, played at Shadle Park High School in Spokane, WA. Coach Baxter had this to say, "Riley brings the ability score in multiple ways, is a great team guy will do whatever it takes to help his team win. He is able to guard multiple positions as he had to play and guard much bigger players this past season."
Devin Ross – A 6-5 guard-forward from Cottonwood, ID, and played at Prairie High School. "Devin helped lead Prairie to the 2019 Idaho 1AD1 State Championship. Long and athletic with a high basketball IQ, he can handle the ball fairly well" said Coach Baxter.
Sage Cummins – A 6-3 guard from Arco, ID. Sage played for Butte County High School. Coach Baxter had this to say, "He shoots the ball well, another high academic athlete that will succeed in the classroom as well as on the floor."
Jacob James – A 6-3 guard from Athol, ID and played at Timberlake High School. "Good shooter, League MVP this past season. He is a stronger guard with good length and size has been a multiple sport athlete at Timberlake, now getting more focused on basketball can really expand his game" says Coach Baxter.
Jacob Holling – A 6-0 PG that played at Liberty High School in Spangle, WA. Coach Baxter had this to say, "Jacob will add much needed depth at the PG position. Handles the ball well, has good court vision, and doesn’t turn it over. Has the ability to get to the rim and finish through contact."
Caleb Arnold – A 6-7 forward out of Crook County High School in Prineville, OR. Coach Baxter had this to say, "Caleb is still pretty new to the game and has his best basketball in front of him, good athleticism moves well for his size. He will add depth and size to our post player group. He earned 1st team all IMC last season."
Luke Holt – A 6-0 combo guard played for Sugar-Salem High School in Sugar City, ID. "Recently back from his mission, Luke is another high academic player that played on a really competitive Sugar-Salem team that won the 2017 3A Idaho State Championship his senior year. He does a really good job of finishing around the rim with either hand, sees the floor well" said Coach Baxter.
Grayson Tripp – A 6-5 forward played at Malad High School in Malad, ID. Coach Baxter had this to say, "Grayson is a long athletic forward who handles the ball fairly well and can stretch the floor from 3 for us. Grayson is a high academic student who earned 2nd team all league while helping Malad to a 4th place finish in the 2019 2A Idaho State Chapionships."
Dareagan Stephens – A 5-8 guard from Milton-Freewater who played at McLoughlin HS. "Dareagan will red-shirt for us this coming season, allowing him to grow both in the classroom and the court" said Coach Baxter.
