Auburn, Wash. - Blue Mountain battled through a strong first half and a standout scoring performance from sophomore guard Brooke McHaffie, but a late surge by Green River handed the Timberwolves an 80–69 loss in their 2025–26 season opener Friday night at Green River College.
Blue Mountain came out firing, shooting over 52% in the first two quarters and taking a 48–44 lead into halftime. However, the offense cooled after the break, with the Timberwolves hitting just 20% in the third quarter and 21.7% in the fourth. Green River capitalized with a 24-point final period to pull away.
McHaffie Shines Off the Bench
McHaffie delivered a breakout performance, scoring a game-high 29 points on an efficient 13-for-19 shooting while adding six rebounds in 30 minutes of action. Her scoring surge kept the Timberwolves within striking distance as Green River’s defense tightened in the second half.
Strong Efforts on the Glass
Blue Mountain controlled portions of the interior, finishing with 54 total rebounds, including 18 on the offensive end. Forward Amayah Defares shined in her collegiate debut with 8 points and 11 rebounds, while Atira Moore added another 11 boards off the bench.
Riley Tucker contributed 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals, and Ella Stewart scored 13 points while pulling down six boards.

Green River countered with balanced scoring and timely perimeter shooting, knocking down 10 threes and getting 15 points from Jayla Keowla and 14 from Tierra Parker.
